Fact Poster- These are all informative facts that have been generated through scientific research as well as volunteer surveys. These facts show the relevance of the issue of cell phone addiction as it pertains to people of all ages, but especially of the millennial era. Through looking at evidence based facts people will be informed of what it means to be addicted to your smartphone. Thus leading to the opportunity for self-reflection to see if these facts fit your cell phone usage. A large part of improving your personal interactions is being aware of the time you spend on your phone, and having facts like these accessible to the public can begin to make some individuals monitor their daily phone usage.

Persuasive Poster- For the second genre, I made a poster to persuade people that smartphones can be an enormous time waster, and that they should download the Clearlock app on their phone to manage time. I thought using a poster would be the most beneficial way to make people aware of how they can manage their time better while using applications on the phone to limit social media usage and other apps that can take hours away from productivity. This poster could also be printed out as a handout, and can be given to people in shopping malls, put on their car windshields, or just given out randomly. Most people in today’s society might not realize how much they use their phone and do not communicate effectively with those around them. This is a crucial problem, but hopefully, the poster will catch the eyes of many people to make a difference in their lives, and that they do not miss the poster looking down at their phones.

Informative Poem- I chose to create an informative acrostic poem. I wanted to inform the reader on many different ways that smartphones can take over one’s life and make them rely on it more and more. I felt like the acrostic style would be beneficial in that I could mess around with the structure and bold significant key words to catch the eye of the reader. Additionally, I felt a poetic format could be more influential in that it has a better flow than other traditional writing styles, yet it can still make the impact on how smartphones can promote laziness and decrease person to person socialization skills. My last reason for creating this informational poem was to so I can imbed questions into the format, making the reader think about the consequences of overusing a smartphone and so that they can relate to their own cell phone usage.

Journal Entry- This is an expressive journal entry about a day in the life of a student who is struggling to manage their time due to the high distractions they receive from their smartphone. These situations are from real life stories that have been shared by current students as a result of them being addicted to social media and their smartphone. We can see in this student’s generated story that they go to drastic measures to spend time on their phone that most would not. How many middle school students do you know that get up an hour and a half before school just to go on their phone. Most students have the opposite problem where they cannot sleep enough and getting to school on time due to over sleeping is their biggest issue. We can see that this individual is heavily addicted to their phone as it is all they can think about and even after being subjected to embarrassment they continued to give in to the urge and let their addiction further affect them by missing the material for a test.

Review of an Article How smartphones make us superhuman- Matt and I collectively produced an informative review on the article How Smartphones Make us Superhuman. We thought it would be a smart idea to look at how someone else perceived smartphone usage, whether that be in a positive or negative mindset. The article had both perspectives on our topic, which was very useful in seeing different statements and opinions from people the author talked to. The sources in the article were a vast variety of people, ranging from CEO’s of companies to surveys on students who slept with their phones on. We noticed a ton of new insights on how phones can be helpful, but still thought that with that helpfulness comes a downside of losing touch with personal connection. It made us think that there is a lot of good that comes from smartphones, but it is still very close to the same amount of negative aspects the speedy smartphone brings about.

Review of an Article The Growing Need to Curb Cellphone Addiction- Alex and I reviewed this article and thought that it was a good depiction of not only what it means to be a cellphone addict but also what the detrimental effects are that come with cellphone addiction. We can think of the obvious issues that follow with being addicted to your phone. A lot of times we do not think of the more serious issues because one they do not happen as often, and two until it happens to someone you know. It does not affect you. Those more serious issues that are highlighted in this article is distracted driving due to cellphones. Studies show that far more people are dying each year due to distracted driving, showing that more than 9 people die and over 1,000 are injured from being distracted by their phones.
